Question 1

How long does fractional leadership last?

Accepted Answer

Typically 3 to 12 months, with optional retained oversight. The aim is to build the delivery function with your team, then hand it over.

Question 2

How is this different from a project manager?

Accepted Answer

A project manager runs an individual project. Fractional delivery leadership builds and runs the function across projects: planning, resourcing, reporting and governance.

Question 3

What does it cost?

Accepted Answer

The engagement is scoped to the problem rather than sold off a rate card. It is not a permanent headcount commitment.

Question 4

What stays with us at the end?

Accepted Answer

A documented handover. Systems, data and capability stay with you, and your team runs the function after handover.

Question 5

Can we move to managed delivery?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Fractional leadership can set the operating model and managed delivery can run it. Managed delivery can also stabilise things before fractional oversight takes over once the function is steady.
